AASB S2 makes Scope 3 everyone’s problem, not just large reporters’
AASB S2 is Australia's mandatory climate-related financial disclosure standard, aligned to ISSB, phasing in for large entities from FY2025 and extending to smaller entities in subsequent years. Separately, energy and grid companies building climate-tech products need engineering partners who can ship, not just advise.
AASB S2 requires large reporting entities to disclose climate-related financial information, including Scope 3 emissions gathered across their entire supplier base — auditable, methodology-backed data, not an estimate.
Large entities reporting from FY2025, and — because of the Scope 3 cascade — the mid-market and small suppliers now asked to submit auditable emissions and activity data for the first time. Energy, grid, and climate-tech companies building the products both sides need are affected on the delivery side.
Reporting entities that can't collect auditable supplier data risk disclosure gaps under a mandatory standard phasing in now; suppliers without a way to produce that data risk being unable to stay in reporting entities' supply chains at all.
